Beauology 101: I Have Questions
by Beau Smith
You would think after all this time I would know everything there is to know about comics and comic related stuff. I’ve been around forever, I’ve read and collected comics longer than most of you reading this have been alive, you’d think I’d have ALL the answers…well…I don’t.
Question: Where is all the original art for all the millions of comic books that have been published since 1938?? How could all of it be in collections or destroyed? In my travels to conventions in the last few years, I don’t see nearly the amount I used to at dealer tables or even with creators. I really miss looking through stacks of obscure original art. Every piece is a treasure because it’s all one of a kind.
Question: I would love to see Marvel and DC Comics start a “Classics Line” of comics, one for each decade that they have been publishing. Brand new writers, artists, and no mixing of continuity with modern books, at least not for a while. Something for everyone and also because I’m selfish and would want it for me to read.
Question: Has any container company ever thought of making comic book long boxes out of heavy duty plastic, say like the kind Rubbermaid brand containers are made of? I would pay a premium price for boxes made for comics like I have just mentioned. For long time collectors like me, dealers, or retailers, they would be great!
Question: Where is artist Ron Frenz, and why is he not doing regular comic book work for someone?
Question: When is my friend Todd McFarlane going to create something else besides Spawn? I would love to see Todd rip loose with all kinds of new creations of all genres. Todd has an amazing comedic flair for art in the humor slant. Having worked for him for may years, I’ve seen it in old drawings, modern doodles and when he wanted to have fun. I’d love for the rest of the world to see this side of him. He’s had a long career, I’d love to see him create and let loose, even if others write and draw it, I’d love to seen some new creations by Todd.
Question: Am I the only person that thinks that Terry Moore’s book, Rachel Rising is the scariest, creepiest book on the market? It should be a TV series. (Or Terry More should be locked up’ he’s a scary guy.)
Question: Why hasn’t Hasbro/IDW Publishing done a retro G.I. Adventure Team book yet? I strongly believe it shouldn’t be a modern version. I believe that would be the attraction and hook. Taking place in the late ‘60s/early ‘70s with members mixed with veteran G.I. Joes from WWII and Viet Nam, out of the service and taking part in new adventures. Play up the King Fu Grip, the beards, life like hair, all the very cool equipment. Of course, you’ll have to fight me to write it…be prepared to lose.
Question: I agree, when are we gonna see ME on the photo cover of Wynonna Earp.
🙂
I hope I’ve brought up some questions that you might have this week. Every now and then I like to get this stuff off my chest and share with you, my amigos. I’m hoping some of you will have answers to these questions or maybe some possible answers, or even some questions of your own.
Inquiring minds wanna know.
