Fifth Degree: Previews #255
by Josh Crawley
I forgot to grab Marvel Previews, so anything fun I notice in there is going to be in next week’s column, along with a few things I may have missed this week. Let’s get on with the show!
This month’s Indy Edge featured creator is Rick Remender. His Last Days of American Crime looks great. In the meantime, I’d recommend picking up any of his other creator-owned work, including but not limited to: Fear Agent, Strange Girl, and Doll & Creature.
Devil #1 from Dark Horse sounds a bit like Ultraviolet to me.
Pages 54 and 55 may be the best double page spread this month: gobs of awesome Buck Rogers! I do need a new business card case…
Milestone Forever #1 reminds me I need to pick up Icon: A Heroes Welcome softcover. Sadly, I’m in no hurry whatsoever to buy the Static Shock: Rebirth of the Cool softcover because I have no use for the first few issues, and then the follow up mini-series from years later, while missing everything in between.
Before all of those, though, I’ll be picking up Hardware: The Man in the Machine softcover, even though I have all the issues; they’re that great!
Justice Society of America Annual #1? Really? After we just got an 80 page giant? And comparing the cover of that issue to #36 above it (page 80), Liberty Belle’s bell colors are inverted and incorrect on one of them. Wonder if that’ll be fixed in two months. I also wonder if they’ll explain the Jesse Chambers event from Flash Rebirth #5.
Wednesday Comics hardcover? Don’t mind if I do.
Look! Absolute Planetary Volume 2! Missed Volume 1? Fret not, DC’s made it easy for you to order them both this month with this new printing.
Demo Volume 2 #1! If you missed out the first time, be sure to order the cheap volume softcover!
Y: The Last Man Deluxe Edition Volume 3 hardcover has a cutie with a cowgirl hat on; sold!
Image United #0 is a great idea for people who may have passed on the crossover prelude the first time around.
If you haven’t tried Robert Kirkman’s Invincible yet, There’s much worse (and not many better) places to start than Invincible Returns #1.
COLT NOBLE AND THE MEGALORDS!!! By Tim Seeley!
And offered just in time to coincide with that is a new printing of Loaded Bible Book One!
Broken Trinity Pandora’s Box #1 reminds me I need to get started on some reviews I’d like to do leading into the forthcoming Artifacts mini-series coming out later this year.
I only read the first issue, but the Days Missing Hardcover is something I wouldn’t hesitate to buy.
The Anchor is a book that I’m pretty sure is criminally overlooked. Conveniently, the first softcover is a great introductory price for four issues!
Fans of campy horror should be sure to check out Hack/Slash Omnibuses (Omnibii?) Volumes 1 and 2. Not even $35 for over 450 pages of fun comics!
Remember a few months ago when I mentioned that The Hulk 100 Project had sold out? It’s relisted this month!
Dan DeCarlo’s Jetta looks awesome.
Munden’s Bar: Grand Re-Opening has some art by Hilary Barta. You might recognize his name from that Tale of the Fear Agent I lettered, or maybe those Splash Brannigan stories he did with Alan Moore. Yes, that Alan Moore.
I am seriously considering the Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland hardcover from IDW just for the Jenny Frison chapter illos.
12 Reasons Why I Love Her is being offered again; check it out.
Which is something I need to do with Love as a Foreign Language. Too many books and too little time!
And that looks like everything from the Comics section of previews, except for Marvel stuff and a couple of three dimensional pieces that’ll wait until next week!
Feel free to contact me with creators you’d like to see spotlighted, comics for review, comments, concerns, corrections, questions, or even just your favorite beer.
